Our visit to Florida was during Spring Break 2010, to Miami and the Florida Keys. The weather was pleasantly warm, a hint of the summer to come, but a lot of the time there was a strong warm wind blowing. The Sat Nav was a blessing in guiding us from the airport to the hotel - the road system being confusing especially after the transatlantic flight.

We were in easy reach of South Beach by a regular local bus service that only cost a few dollars each way. South Beach has a main drag lined with restaurants; Larios on the BEach (owned by Gloria Estefan) had a great atmosphere and good food.

The road down to Key West through the Keys was a must-do. However it was hard to find places to stop to enjoy the sights - one such place we did find was Anne's Beach on Lower Matecumbe Key. This offered some great views and an almost-deserted beach.

We stayed in Key West overnight, but didn't really enjoy the place that much with its slightly trashy seaside amusements and bars. But Hemingway's House was worth a look as well as the famous marker for the Southernmost Point of the Continental US indicating only 90 miles to Cuba.

The highlight of the trip though was swimming with the dolphins at the Miami Aquarium, a truly fantastic experience.
